Happy April Fool's Day!

April Fools' Day or All Fools' Day falls on April 1st every year. Strange things may happen on this day. Our friends will play tricks (恶作剧,诡计) on us and try to fool us.
If a person is cheated (欺骗), he or she is called "April fool!" The best trick is one that makes everyone laugh, including (包括) the "fool".
This custom is thought to have started in France during the 16th century but now it has become one of the most popular holidays for children in Britain and America.
Each country celebrates April Fool's Day differently. In France, the April Fool is called "April Fish" (四月鱼). The French fool their friends by taping a paper fish to their friends' backs and when someone discovers this trick, they shout "Poisson d'avril" (法语的“四月鱼”).
In England, tricks can be played only in the morning. If a trick is played on you, you are a "noodle" (笨蛋).
In Scotland, April Fool's Day is 48 hours long. The favorite April Fool's joke is to send someone on a Gowk(杜鹃鸟,可作呆子讲) hunt. This is to be a trick because there is no such thing as a Gowk.
In America the day is mostly observed by young people and practical jokers who want to get a laugh at someone else's expense.

: Hey, Fred! Wait up!
: Oh, hi, Mary. What's up?
: I have a present for you to give your roommate, Pete.
: Why? It's not his birthday.
: It's a surprise. Let's just say I owe () him one.
: What do you mean?
: Well, he gave me a bottle of Coke (可口可乐) after gym class, today. I was thirsty so I took a big swig. It tasted a little funny, then my mouth began burning. He had put Tabasco sauce (塔巴斯科辣味沙司) in the Coke!
: Wow! That's cruel! I guess he played an April Fool's prank on you, too.
: You mean he got you too?
: Yeah. He set my alarm back one hour to 8:00. When I woke up this morning I only had ten minutes to get to class. I made it there on time but I looked like a wreck!
: That jerk (蠢人)! You really ought to get him back!
: No. I had it coming. Last year the night before April 1st I put starch (淀粉,淀粉浆) in all his pants to make them really stiff (凝固的,黏稠的). You should have seen him walking around campus the next day!
: What an awful (可恶的) thing to do! No wonder he wanted to get revenge
: Well, guys are just like that. By the way, what's in the package?
: Oh, just a thank-you note for the Coke ... and a warning to be on the lookout for a payback!
